The latest installment of the Guilty Gear franchise, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, has just released in Japan and the west, and we are just about to experience the series’ 20th anniversary. To commemorate, Arc System Works, the developer behind the series, released a commemoration trailer featuring a collection of the series’ characters, called the Guilty Gear Strive series.
On August 3rd, Arc System Works officially announced “Striker ” as the 4th member of the “Guilty Gear” series. Striker is a new character designed by Daisuke Ishiwatari (producer of Guilty Gear Xrd). Striker is an alien monster with a crimson-colored body but he is not an enemy to be feared. He has the ability to fuse with a host and steal their powers.
At the end of February, Arc System Works began streaming a new trailer for Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- on their YouTube channel. This trailer, which can be viewed here , reveals some of the new characters that players will be able to use in the upcoming arcade fighter, Guilty Gear Xrd:SIGN. Although the trailer only revealed new characters for one of the main characters, Slayer, it did reveal a few new fighters that will be joining the cast of Xrd.
Guilty Gear Strive introduces new characters to the series, and the game’s forthcoming DLC will add many more. The game has already sold over half a million copies worldwide and continues to draw new players to both the genre and the series, making it Arc System Works’ most successful IP. It’s because to their excellent visuals, simple combat mechanics, and a slew of other design decisions that the development team chose to lure new players that their approach succeeded.
Now we’re left to wonder whether Guilty Gear Strive will follow the fighting game history of making DLC characters who are much weirder and more unique than those included in the base game. New Characters in Guilty Gear
Dickinson, Goldlewis
Goldlewis Dickinson, a huge man who carries a gigantic coffin, is the sole new character in Guilty Gear Strive that we know of for now, which seems like another Iron Maiden reference if you ask me. In his distinctive playstyle, Goldlewis mixes set play with strength. The Iron Coffin he carries is his gimmick. It reads Area 51 on it, and there’s an extraterrestrial inside the coffin. Who knows what more he possesses, given his moniker as The Cryptid Collector. By placing tracking bombs and even fighting the adversary, the alien assists the player. Guilty Gear and Arc System Works are all over this character’s design.
Who Will Be the Next in Line?
This year’s DLC character, Goldlewis Dickinson, is just the first of many. We don’t know who will come next, but we do know it will be a character that has featured in prior games. Jam’s return to the game is anticipated by many. We’re getting another unique character after a known one. Your guess is as good as ours after that.
