Today we are proud to announce XDefiant, a new innovative, third-person multiplayer arena shooter that combines Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon and Free Radical Design’s Haze. XDefiant brings the tried-and-true multiplayer gameplay of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon into a futuristic setting. With a variety of new weapons, vehicles and environments, XDefiant is a fresh take on an established franchise.
XDefiant is Ubisoft’s next Tom Clancy franchise arena shooter. You’ll be able to compete in competitive multiplayer matches and special operations against friends and foes to be the best at what you do. You can also develop your own custom loadout to face off against other heroes in the game. Here are the details:
Ubisoft has had a difficult couple of years. It’s been shattered by a wide-ranging sexual harassment scandal and litigation, it’s been losing employees left and right, it’s had to postpone Skull & Bones so many times that no one knows what it’s about, and it even received a fake bomb threat last year. Despite this, the studio has been trying to resurrect the Division brand, and we learned last month that it was working on a free-to-play multiplayer shooter that will include aspects from many of its titles, including The Division 2.
The game, XDefiant, was eventually unveiled by the firm yesterday. “Tom Clancy’s XDefiant is a free-to-play, fast-paced arena shooter that mixes furious gunplay with customized loadouts and specialized factions, as teams of gunfighters known as Defiants struggle for dominance,” according to the official website. It’s not an MMO, mind you; it’s just a 6v6 arena shooter with a “diverse cast” that’ll be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and X|S. Tester registration is already open on the official site, with the first North American test scheduled for August 5th.
