Why do I have to pay an activation fee for Verizon?

There’s an activation fee for Verizon because the company needs to offset some of the costs they incur when you sign up with them. The activation fee is $40 and this cost covers things like setting up your account, transferring your previous service from another carrier, or having a technician come out and activate FIOS services at your home.
