Quantum Computer Services Inc, a California corporation, may be best known as the first company to offer a commercial Internet service. The company was one of the first ISPs and helped establish the TCP/IP protocol standards still in use today.
They’re best known for their landmark achievement-the introduction of commercial Internet service on August 27th, 1991 to five residents of Hillview Terrace in Menlo Park, CA.
This established Quantum’s place in history as being one of the first ISPs and leaders that helped push to establish TCP/IP standards still used today.
A remarkable feat then because they were mainly running on Apple iMac computers directly connected together with 10base2 Ethernet .
