The MOP Up: Pokémon Go’s Astounding Multi-billion Dollar Haul

Just when you thought Pokémon Go couldn’t get any bigger, the augmented reality game has pulled in an extra $1.6 billion in just the first few months, according to estimates. Big things were expected when the app — which allows players to catch monsters in the real world as they see in the game — launched in July, but few could have predicted the success.

Pokémon Go has been buzzing with life since its release three weeks ago. In that time, it has become the most popular app in the App Store, with over 500 million downloads. The BBC estimates that the game is responsible for $2.3 billion in revenue in just a month. In short, Pokémon Go is a commercial success, and it is clear that it was the bringer of great benefits to the world.
