Six months later, Sony is finally putting Cyberpunk 2077 back on the PlayStation store

Finally, after an agonizing six-month wait, the wait is over. The game developer, CD Project Red, revealed that Cyberpunk 2077, a hotly anticipated open-world action RPG title, is back on the PlayStation Store. The hope, of course, is that you bought the game in the first place (or you’ve been waiting for a sizeable discount) because you want to play it. But what if you never bought it, or you were planning to buy it, but you’re now on the fence because the wait?

Six months ago, I wrote a post suggesting that Cyberpunk 2077 had been removed from the PlayStation Store, which remained that way for a few weeks, before reappearing on the store as a “Coming Soon” item. However, it seems the good people at Sony also have a sense of humor, because it seems that Cyberpunk 2077 is once again being removed from the PlayStation Store.

There was a lot of speculation when the game was removed from the PlayStation Store, but Sony is now officially saying that they will bring the game back, and even open it up for a new limited beta in a few weeks.. When Cyberpunk 2077 crashed during the Christmas launch, one of the most surprising side effects was Sony’s decision to not only refund your purchase, but to remove the game from the PlayStation Store entirely. That decision only lasted a little over six months, and CD Projekt Red even cited it as a reason for the game’s low sales in 2021. The overall situation remains unchanged until we return to the Sony store, CDPR told investors in early June. We don’t have one of the big marketplaces and we do most of our selling through PC/digital channels.

Those problems (and that excuse) will soon be behind us, however, as the studio announced today that the beleaguered game is back on PS4 and, by extension, PS5, thanks to backwards compatibility.

CD PROJEKT RED has announced that the PlayStation 4 version of Cyberpunk 2077 is available for purchase on the PlayStation Store worldwide. Not only will the game be available on PlayStation 4, but anyone who buys it will also be able to play it on PlayStation 5 thanks to backwards compatibility. Additionally, a free update for PlayStation 5 will be released in the second half of 2021 – and it will be available to all owners of the PlayStation 4 version of Cyberpunk 2077, both digitally and on disc. This update allows the game to take full advantage of the new console’s more powerful hardware. […] Performance issues may continue to occur on the PS4 edition while CD PROJEKT RED works to improve stability on all platforms. The game on PS4 Pro and PS5 will deliver the best Cyberpunk 2077 experience on PlayStation.

So that should take away one of the stains on the game’s title. But as we’ve noted, there are four class action lawsuits over the failed launch that continue in consolidated form, there’s the delay and schedule fiasco, and there’s the fact that the planned multiplayer plans are still on hold.

ViewWe last reported on Cyberpunk 2077 back in February, when the game remained listed among the “Recently Added” programs on PlayStation Store, but now it is finally back on the store. This is a very positive sign for the game’s prospects, but it may not be a long-term trend. We may still see the game removed again in the near future, as the game is still not even close to completion.. Read more about cyberpunk 2077 back on ps store and let us know what you think.
