I’m back from the grave with Pedro, my old friend from the 80s, to discuss his big screen return and the retro-gaming revolution. The Mega Man X Collection on the PS2 holds a special place in my heart. I was nine years old when I purchased a copy through a mail-order service and spent hours playing through the eight games that came with it. I loved the challenge of beating each boss and remembering to bring along the right weapon for the right situation. I was also impressed by the games’ presentation. X and Zero, the two protagonists, had cool designs that were full of personality.
In the summer of 2013, I had the opportunity to visit the valley in which Pedro, my pal of a childhood friend, grew up. We found the little town to be a bit sleepy, with a sense of tolerance for all races and religions. It was a place that put more stock into what one thought of the town, than what one was in it.
One of the most anticipated games of the summer is My Friend Pedro: Ripe for Revenge, an 80s themed action game from Bandai Namco and LDG. For those who haven’t heard, the game’s plot is centered around a young man named Pedro, who is on the verge of his 18th birthday. His childhood friend Julio is now a student at the prestigious Maxwell Academy, and Pedro had a crush on him back when they were kids. When Pedro decides to visit Julio and confess his love, he finds that Julio is now engaged to a woman named Tatiana, the daughter of a local mob boss. When Pedro finds out who Julio is marrying, he decides to take matters into his own hands.
Everyone’s favorite and most nutritious sidekick returns with the release of My Friend Pedro from Deadtoast and Devolver Digital : Ripe for revenge at 5. August 2021.
After his wife and children are kidnapped and he himself is left for dead, Pedro returns to take revenge. To quickly restore justice, players must navigate dozens of levels on foot, motorcycle or skateboard in search of a high score. If you want to test your skills, you can also switch to Blood Rush mode.
