This is due to the fact that a GTA V version for the PS5 has yet to be published. As a result, PS5 players are basically playing a PS4 version of the game.

As a result, PS5 gamers may play with their pals who are playing GTA V on the PS4. 

Why isn’t GTA V available on many platforms?

We can only guess at this stage. Rockstar Games has not yet issued any formal comments on the subject.

However, here’s what I believe:

The game can’t support cross-play since it was created in 2013, long before the concept of cross-play was ever considered.  

Because consoles and video games were incompatible at the time, this was never an issue. 

To put it another way, before adding cross-play compatibility to GTA 5, developers would have to travel back in time and modify their programming. 

The bottom line is that doing so is too much of a hassle since the game was not intended to be played on many platforms in the first place.

Plus, in this day and age, adding cross-play functionality to GTA V is essentially remaking the game.

So, from a technological perspective, it’s simpler for Rockstar Games to leave them out than to go to the effort of including them.  

Is GTA Online ever going to be cross-platform?

I’m not sure. It is conceivable. 

However, it does not seem like Rockstar Games is working to make cross-play a reality.

Although we can’t tell for sure at this moment, the newest edition of GTA Online has a high chance of becoming cross-platform.
