The Constitution of the United States has 27 amendments. There are many more proposed Constitutional Amendments that have yet to be ratified, but only about a dozen are still in active debate. In order for an amendment to become part of the Constitution it must pass both houses of Congress by two-thirds vote and then be approved by three quarters (38) out of 50 states’ Legislatures.
