Apex Legends adds a new character, updates its map, and kicks off ranked arenas in Emergence update

Since the game’s open beta kicked off earlier this year, Respawn Entertainment’s balancing team has been hard at work on Apex Legends, the battle royale shooter that’s quickly become one of the most popular games on the market. Last week, the team released the first major update to the game, bringing with it a new character, three new maps, and the introduction of ranked arena matches.

Apex Legends is adding a new character, Taylor, who is based on the M1A2 Abrams main battle tank. The M1 Abrams is the backbone of American armored forces, and features a 120mm main gun, a 20mm machine gun, stabilized commander’s cupola and enhanced night vision and thermal capabilities. The new character, along with characters from other factions, will be added to the game in addition to tweaks to the map and the addition of ranked play.

The Apex Legends map has been updated, and is now more difficult to traverse for the uninitiated. The addition of the Wraith character, along with its low gravity environment, has significantly changed the way players approach the map. It’s far easier to get lost in the map now, and if a player gets too far off the beaten path, they could easily lose track of where they’ve been and that could lead to death.. Apex Legends’ battle royale shooting has become a touch more creative. That is, at least, according to the general mood of the game’s most recent roster addition, which is a centerpiece of the overall Emergence update that went online today.

Seer is the new character, a guy with “microdrones and an artist’s eye.” He can also visualize enemy heartbeats when aiming downsights with his weapon, release a pulse of microdrones that reveal enemy locations and halt their abilities, or create a sphere of microdrones that reveal the footsteps of enemies moving quickly or firing their weapons within it, and create a sphere of microdrones that reveal the footsteps of enemies moving quickly or firing their weapons within it. So, in a nutshell, he’s a snitch.

A new Rampage LMG, a new battle pass full of goods to pursue, and other quality-of-life improvements like a victory streak badge, a “Hold On” ping command, and more are among the other updates to Apex.

In addition, the Emergence update introduces ranked arenas. Players must first complete 10 placement matches to determine their Match Marking Rank (MMR), after which they will be allowed to compete in head-to-head battles between two teams of three. The developers have created a separate article to describe how everything works. There are also a few more trailers to look forward to.
